How to Have a Pest-Free Home in Cleveland, TN!”
“Things You Can Do to Have a Pest-Free Home in Cleveland, TN!”
Just about everyone hates bugs and rodents! They especially hate spiders in their shower, ants crawling all over their counter tops or mouse droppings in their cabinets!
So how do you keep them out?
Here are few things you can do to keep your home rodent and pest-free.
- Use caulk to seal the crack where the wood framing contacts the foundation.
- Use caulk to seal cracks in the siding.
- Use caulk to seal around windows and doors.
- Make sure doors and windows fit tightly.
- Replace/adjust thresholds and door sweeps to make them fit tight.
- Trim back all foliage around the structure at least 18 inches.
- Clean gutters.
- Seal all pipe and wire openings under crawl space with blocking and expanding foam.
- Inspect all groceries before they are brought into the home, especially potatoes.
- Inspect your crawl space for spider webs, termite evidence and other insect activity.
Crawl spaces are the Number 1 breeding site for pest insects in most homes!
The Next Step:
The measures described above are known as exclusion. The most effective way to keep your home rodent and pest-free is a combination of exclusion and rodenticide/pesticide application. Our technicians are highly trained and certified by the State of Tennessee and the State of Georgia in proper handling and application of these materials. When we perform a treatment it is extremely effective and very safe for you, your family and your pets.
Here’s how we can help:
- Treat an 18 inch band around your foundation with a long residual material to form a barrier to prevent pests from entering your home and to reduce the overall pest population.
- Treat around all windows, doors and utility penetrations to prevent pest entry.
- Treat around eaves and overhangs to eliminate spiders and other pest insects.
- Sweep down all webs and wasp/hornets nests.
- Treat the crawl space with our electrostatic power duster. (Our machine gives the dust a “static charge” so the dust clings to all surfaces making your crawl space a pest-free zone.)
- Place secure rodent bait stations and glue traps in strategic locations.
- Inspect your home on each quarterly visit, including crawl space and attic, to detect the presence of pests, termites and other potentially damaging insects and organisms.
By inspecting and treating quarterly we can achieve a number of goals.
- Form a pest-free zone around your home.
- Reduce the overall pest population around your home.
- Protect your home from termites and other wood damaging organisms.
- Protect your family from insect bites and the diseases they may transmit.

Mosquito Control in Chattanooga, TN -How to Protect You and Your Family from Mosquitoes and Zika Virus!
Mosquito Control in Chattanooga, TN – How to Protect You and Your Family from Mosquitoes and Zika Virus!
Here at Volunteer Rid-A-Pest, we get lots and lots of mosquito calls in the spring and summer.
Each year when the spring time warm up occurs, millions of mosquitoes, that have gone dormant for winter, now come back to life. They begin their life cycle anew. They lay millions of eggs in stagnant water. These breeding sites may be as large as a lake or as small as a cupped leaf, or maybe in a clogged gutter system just a few feet above your heads.
Many people believe that mosquitoes feed on blood, however they do not. Mosquitoes actually feed on nectar. The females do however, need a blood meal before they can lay eggs.
So, it is the females that bite you!
Mosquitoes are attracted to mammals (humans and animals) by the carbon dioxide they emit when breathing. Mosquitoes can travel quite a distance to feed, however they are not long distance flyers, they typically stop numerous times along the journey to rest.
Mosquitoes avoid sunlight by resting in tall grass or on the inner branches of dense shrubbery during the day. They typically stay close to the area where they hatched, but will move if an adequate food source is not present.
Mosquitoes are considered to be the most dangerous creature on the planet!
More people die each year from disease contracted from mosquito bites than attacks from any other creature on the planet. Mosquitoes carry Zika, West Nile, Encephalitis, Malaria and Dengue fever. It is impossible to prevent these mosquitoes from carrying a disease, but by reducing the number of mosquitoes in your environment, we can reduce your family’s probability of being bitten by an infected mosquito.
5 Things You Can Do To Protect Your family From Mosquitoes and Zika!
- Look for and eliminate mosquito breeding sites in your yard. (Corrugated drain lines from down spouts that have standing water, bird feeders, low lying areas that retain water, clogged gutters, etc.)
- Keep dense shrubbery trimmed to allow sunlight in.
- Keep your lawn mown weekly at no more than 3 inches.
- Turn down irrigation systems to prevent over watering.
- Apply insect repellant to loved ones before going outside.
The only way to guarantee that you and your family are protected, is to have your lawn treated during the mosquito season. Our Mosquito-Guard program uses the most advanced technology to eliminate all of the mosquitoes living and breeding in your lawn. We apply an adulticide to eliminate the adult mosquito population and we use pelletized larvicide to eliminate the larvae BEFORE they can develop into adults.
The best part is, it is safe for kids, pets and plants! You can have peace-of-mind knowing there are no mosquitoes living in your yard and if they fly over from the neighbors, when they stop to rest, our treatment will stop them in their tracks!

Termite Control in Chattanooga, TN – How to keep termites away from your home
How to protect YOUR home from termites
Over the past several decades, scientists and we in the termite control industry have developed the most effective methods to eliminate and prevent termites from damaging American homes. In fact, our methods are so effective, that absolutely no home or other structure should ever be damaged by termites.
However, last year termites did over 5 BILLION dollars in damage to American homes!
How can that be?
It’s really simple. Most homeowner’s assume that the builder or previous homeowner has taken measures to protect their home forever. Most homeowners receive a termite clearance letter at closing and assume that this means they are protected…forever.
Unfortunately, these termite letters are only effective for 90 days and offer no warranty protection. They only state that on the date of inspection “No visible evidence of termites were found.” It doesn’t guarantee that no termites are present!
Most homeowners do not have termite treatments performed unless they have an active termite infestation. These homeowners bury their head in the sand and hope that all is well. They don’t take the initiative to make sure their home is protected.
5 things YOU the homeowner can do to keep termites out of and away from your home…
- Keep mulch at least 12 inches away from foundation.
- Stack firewood at least 15 feet away from the structure.
- Make sure there is no wood, cardboard or other cellulose material on the floor of the crawl space.
- Make sure all rainwater drains away from foundation.
- Make sure all wood siding is at least 6 inches away from the ground.
Many homeowners practice do-it-yourself pest control for ants, roaches, crickets, spiders, etc. Unfortunately this is not possible for the average homeowner due the expensive equipment required for a termite treatment. Also…a pesticide applicator’s license is required to purchase the products used to control termites.
The only way to guarantee that your home or other structure is protected from termites and termite damage, is to have it treated and inspected annually by a licensed pest control expert.
If you think you have a problem with termites…or any other pest…or simply a question…call Volunteer Rid-A-Pest at 423-698-7205 and ask for me, Erik Gardner. I’ll be happy to speak with you anytime.
